The Dublin Regulation

Migrationsrätt | Familjerätt | Affärsrätt | H I JURISTBYRÅ | HI Law

The Dublin Regulation states which country within the EU who has the responsibility for handling an application for asylum.

The main rule states that you must seek asylum in the first EU-country you arrive in. This information can be verified by checking your fingerprints in a database that provides information about if and where you have been seeking asylum before.

If you go to another country after sending in an application for asylum you could be sent back to the country where your application was first submitted.

An exception from the main rule is when you have family members staying in another EU-country who are in the process of seeking asylum, or who have been granted asylum. In this case, the country where the family member is staying can be responsible for your application.

The Dublin Regulation was modified recently, so if you have applied for asylum before Jan 1st, 2014 you should keep in mind that the older version applies.
